The setting of the story "The Last Judgment" by Karel Capek begins on Earth, but it quickly moves to an afterlife location, since the main character has just been killed in a gunfight. The story states that the next location is Heaven. It's not quite exactly Heaven, though, since each person in Kugler's location must await judgment to find out if they can remain (in Heaven) or be "transferred" to Hell. I tend to think of this location as more akin to Purgatory rather than Heaven itself. Regardless, it is in the afterlife. God is present as a key witness, and it is not Hell, so Heaven it is. Unfortunately Kugler does not get to stay. The judges deem him unworthy of remaining in Heaven and sentence him to Hell.
