The narrator meets the little prince in the Sahara desert. The Narrator's plane crashed (or he had to make an emergency landing there). This was inspired by the author's actual plane crash in the desert in 1935. Since this story is also an allegory or a fable, the setting (Sahara Desert) is symbolic. There are allusions to Biblical passages (garden of Eden, the snake, and Israelites being lost in the desert).
