Doug Wright, playwright, was born in Dallas, Texas in 1962. Best known for writing both the script and the screenplay for "Quills" in 1995. His play, "I Am My Own Wife" was produced off-Broadway in 2003. It transferred to Broadway where it won the Tony Award for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. This one-person play is the story of German transvestite Charlotte von Mahlsdorf. Charlotte was born male but chose to live as a female. She survived the Nazis and Communists and ran an antiques museum that was a favorite with the gay community of Berlin, Germany.
