The novel Mansfield Park was written by Jane Austen. She wrote the novel while staying at Chawton Cottage in Alton, Hampshire in the United Kingdom.

Austen wrote the novel between 1812 and 1814. She wrote in secret from everyone but her family at a small table located in the dining parlor at Chawton.

The first edition of the novel was published in July of 1814 by the publisher responsible for publishing both Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice, Thomas Egerton.

When it came time to publish a second edition, Austen turned to John Murray; he also published Emma.
