If you are referring to the short story "Indian Camp" by Ernest Hemingway, it was originally published in the 1920's. It is an important work because it was the first of the "Nick Adams" stories. Nick Adams was one of Hemingway's first characters and many believe Nick's actions mirror those of Hemingway. The story begins a series of tales that follows Nick from boyhood ( as in "Indian Camp") through his combat experience in World War I and into his post-war disillusionment as a wounded veteran trying to adjust to normal, civil society. These events parallel the events in Hemingway's own life and set the stage for the author's later works.

"Indian Camp" was first published in the April 1924 issue of the literary journal Transatlantic. A year later, it was included in Hemingway's first book published in the United States, a short story collection titled In Our Time.
