In the book Bunnicula, the family in the story, the Monroes, get a rabbit from a theater where they are watching a Dracula movie, so they name him Bunnicula.  The problem occurs when the Monroe's cat, Chester, begins thinking that Bunnicula actually has some kind of awful magic powers.  Chester attempts to solve the problem and gets the dog, Howard, to get rid of Bunnicula so he can't cause trouble in the Monroe's home.
