I would say that if this is going to be a presentation or some other type of format, Annie's line, "I'm your number one fan" would be a great opening. On one level, it grabs the attention of the reader or listener because of the reflection of authenticity and purity in the statement. Yet, on another level, it reflects the very bizarre levels to which Annie goes to ensure that her character, Misery, is constructed under her direct specifications. When the reader or listener who is familiar with the work hears those lines, they have a completely different read on it and they will understand where things are going. I think that this line or sentiment is a good attention grabber primarily because King explores what it means to be in the position of celebrity and the problems that accompanies it before others fully grasped it.
