Will the trend toward skyrocketing levels of workplace stress continue?

Stress in the workplace cannot continue to grow as rapidly as it has, but it will not go back down either.  The reason for this is globalization and the competition that goes with it.

In today's globalizing world, few jobs are safe.  Almost every firm has to figure out ways to become more and more efficient, productive, and competitive.  If this is not done well enough, the firm may fold or its American operations may move overseas.  This means that there is constant pressure to change and improve along with the constant threat of job loss.  This is a recipe for stress and it is not likely to go away because globalization is here to stay.
