My first response to this article is that the person who wrote it ought to know that Mike Huckabee was a presidential hopeful four years ago, not this year.

Outside of this, the writer certainly has a point.  We do know that non-religious regimes in the Middle East have been terrible to their people.  It may well be that Islamist regimes would be better.

However, that is just one side of the story.  Islamist governments might very well be worse for us.  They can be good to their people and, at the same time, hate us.

As far as the idea that we are hypocritical, that may well be true.  However, it is harder to argue that our leaders' religious beliefs have caused us to engage in policies that intentionally harm other countries.  Islamist terrorists have done this and so there may (or may not) be reason to fear Islamist governments.
