My response is that it is somewhat of a problem if people are coming to distrust the Supreme Court.  Granted, the Court's approval ratings are higher than those of Congress or the President, but they are low compared to historical standards and are dropping.

The reason that this is a problem is that the Supreme Court is often the last line of defense that prevents unpopular rights from being trampled.  However, it cannot enforce its decisions and must rely on the other branches of government (and on public approval) for enforcement.  If the Court becomes very unpopular, it may no longer be able to protect our rights and we would lose an important check on our elected officials.
