The representative particle for any given substance is the smallest unit of the substance found in nature.

Ag is the element silver as found on the periodic table.  Since it is a pure element, its representative particle is an atom of silver.

S2O is a chemical compound called disulfur monoxide.  It is composed of two atoms of sulfur (S) and one atom of oxygen (O).  Since it is a chemical compound composed of more than one atom, its representative particle is a single molecule of S2O.

O2 is a chemical compound called molecular oxygen or oxygen gas.  it is composed of two atoms of oxygen (O) bonded together via a double bond.  Even though it is composed of a single type of atom, since there is more than one of them the representative particle is a single molecule of O2.

Fe is the element iron as found on the periodic table.  Since it is a pure element, its representative particle is an atom of iron.
