A good thesis statement has three components in most cases. First, a good thesis statement should be debatable. If the thesis is not debatable, then it is not a thesis at all. It is a fact, which means it cannot be argued or debated. Second, a good thesis should argue a position with tenable reasons. The stronger your reasons are, the stronger the thesis will be. The rest of your essay will should develop these reasons. Finally, a good thesis should give a brief outline of where the argument is going. So, a thesis should give a few hints as to the development of the arguments. If you have these three points, your thesis would not only be valid, but also solid.
