What would be a good lab experiment for a grade 12 biology student to prepare over the course of 2 weeks?

Hi there, i was just wondering if I could get some help with finding an appropriate experiment for a grade 12 student. The course that i am taking is a biology course, hence the experiment must be relevant to some sort of biology whether it is microbiology or even biochemistry..... The lab that I am thinking about right now is a lab that ventures the effect of different foods or things that we put in our mouth like toothpaste, on the development of oral bacteria.

I would deeply appreciate it if someone could actually propose a procedure for this experiment if it is actually a good experiment. The requirement for this experiment also includes the fact that it must take atleast two weeks or longer. (no more than a month and a half)

please help me with ideas because anything helps

If you want to see the effect of toothpaste on bacteria, you could use a petri dish and put the toothpaste and bacteria in it. You can do the same thing with other surfaces. You can also look for bacteria in common surfaces in the bathroom.

I am not an expert in this area, but I am sure I remember doing some kind of long-term experiment with growing cells and looking at them and how they develop every week or so. Does this ring any bells for anyone else? I wonder if there could be some experiment to do with how cells develop and grow over time. Let us know which one you go for!

For your lab experiment you could try this idea:

Study the production of methane by anaerobic organisms that feed on organic waste. You can try to determine the ideal conditions to increase methane production and make it faster. The outcome of the experiment would be a way to produce methane faster and in a controlled manner so that the methane can be used to produce energy. This is a way to deal with waste and reduce methane which is naturally produced in landfills and contributes to global warming four times more than carbon dioxide. You will have to gather information on the set up that would required for conducting the experiment and what are the conditions that can be varied to improve the outcome.

I hope the idea helps you and gets you started.

so what materials will you use ?

I thought of a popular Bio 12 assignment and that is to determine if you can really gather evidence at a crime scene and have a reenactment and then see hoiw2 much you can really collect and if it is something that professional labs do, that might be somewhat fun to do.
