Junior says at least three things before he goes to school at Reardan:
- The first thing Junior says is in the chapter "Go Means Go" and is in reaction to his mother asking him if he's really sure he wants to start Reardan the next day. He responds by saying, "[I]f I don't go now, I never will. I have to do it now."
- The other thing he says the day before going to Reardan is in response to Rowdy, who is upset about his best friend leaving him. Junior says, "I have to go. I'm going to die if I don't leave."
- "I'm scared" is the final thing Junior says as his father is driving him to Reardan.
All of these words signify that Junior is making a huge life decision and entering a place that is outside his comfort zone.
