Rita Moreno is an actress, singer, and dancer. Born in Puerto Rico in 1934, she is the only Latin performer who has won an Academy Award for her portrayal of Anita in West Side Story , as well as a Grammy award for her participation in the soundtrack of the children's show Electric Company, a Tony award for her role in the play The Ritz, and two Emmy awards for her participation in Sesame Street, among other shows.

Her real name is Rosa Alverio, and she is still an active performer appearing in TV shows, some theater performances, and making cameo appearances. She certainly opened the door to the Latin community in Broadway and Hollywood alike.
