The Congress under the Articles of Confederation was successful in accomplishing its goals. The first order of business was getting the country up and running. While there were definitely weaknesses in the Articles of Confederation as a plan of government, Congress was established and began to handle our business. Congress could make deals with other countries. Congress also established a system of money. Of course, Congress made laws.

Congress did a masterful job of dealing with western lands. The Land Ordinance of 1785 established a process for organizing and dividing western lands. It allowed the government to make money from the sale of these lands.

Congress also did a wonderful job of establishing a process of how a territory can become a state. With the Northwest Ordinance of 1787, Congress established a process that would be followed. This was needed since our country would be growing in the future.
