What was your favourite moment in the book? Why?
My favorite part of the play is after the Capulet party when Romeo jumps the fence and sees Juliet on the balcony. When she's thinking aloud and says, "What's in a name? That which we call a rose/By any other name would smell as sweet," Romeo lets Juliet know he's there, and they profess their love for each other. To me, this scene is sweet and innocent, like Romeo's and Juliet's love for each other. Their new love is also passionate. They have hope for their future together, even though their families are enemies.
When you're asked a question like this, consider the part that touches you the most or causes you to react emotionally. It doesn't have to be the most important scene, but one that makes you feel angry, sad, happy, or any other strong emotion.
One of my favorite parts of the play occurs when Romeo and Juliet first meet at the party (I.v.). When speaking to each other for the first time, they compare their emotions to that of prayer:
"Good pilgrim, you do wrong your hand too much,
Which mannerly devotion shows in this;
For saints have hands that pilgrims' hands do touch,
And palm to palm is holy palmers' kiss." (Juliet)
This language shows how overwhelming/ important/ beyond understand their infatuation for each other is, even from the very beginning. This is what they hold to throughout all the fighting that occurs between the two families later.
My favorite part of the play is definitely the balcony scene . During the balcony scene Juliet's monologue is just too beautiful .
O Romeo , Romeo ! wherefore art thou Romeo ?
Deny thy father and refuse thy name ;
Or , if thou wilt not , be but sworn my love ,
And I'll no longer be a Capulet .
