We don't know exactly what the family were doing on the day of the apocalypse. But from the information provided by their automated house, we can make an educated guess. It's August 4th 2026, which we're told by a voice from the kitchen ceiling is Mr. Featherstone's birthday as well as Tilita's wedding anniversary. One must presume that Tilita is Mr. Featherstone's daughter.

We can reasonably surmise, then, that the family that once lived here were preparing for a double celebration. This makes their tragic deaths all the more poignant. On their last day on earth, they were looking forward to not one but two happy occasions. And yet their happiness was cruelly cut short by a gigantic nuclear blast that's destroyed the town of Allendale, California.
