It was the 1920s that started an increase in the diversification of classes offered in traditional schooling.  Prior to World War I, the basic teaching curriculum was limited in that it focus was on the Three Rs (readin', ritin', and' rithmetic).  This had changed from the 1920s, where more courses such as science and home economics had become part of the curriculum.  As local schools increased, more teachers were needed to meet this demand.  In this time period, how teachers were trained also changed.  Programs were expanded from a two year service of training for a four year one.  In examining how this trend started in the 1920s, there was great change in how teachers were prepared and trained from the end of the First World War and leading into the Second World War.
