There were several purposes of the Declaration of Independence. The main purpose was for the colonists to announce to the world that they were free from British rule and were now an independent country.

Another purpose was to explain why they wanted to become independent. They felt it was necessary to list all of the reasons that led them to declare independence. They were very unhappy with the actions of the King of England and the British government.

The third purpose of the Declaration of Independence was to explain that all people have certain rights that can’t be taken away. These rights are the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The Declaration of Independence said it is the responsibility of government to protect our rights. When the government fails to do this, people must change the government. Since the British government was no longer protecting our rights, we had to get rid of the government.
