In the book Inside the Walls of Troy, Helen, princess of Sparta, has been kidnapped by Theseus, King of Athens. However frightening it may have been to be captured by the legendary king, Helen discovered that he was not a brutal captor. He was kind to her and her maid, Hessia, and explained details about her family that she had not known. She learned how to dress like Athenian women, how to play the flute and how to please her future husband. It took three months for the people of Sparta to raise the ransom for Helen's release: 100 talents of gold. See chapter 5 for the details.
