What was the first play ever to be performed at the Globe Theater in London, England?
It is understood that the theater that is the Globe was built in 1599. Many plays were performed on that stage in that year including Henry V. However, the best evidence we can find leads us to conclude that it was Julius Ceasar which was first produced there.
This is ironic because the governing bodies in the monarchy took serious interest in this new production of entertainment and the builders of this Globe theater (The Lord Chamberlain's Men) were entertaining and profiting from this venture. So, a tale of the corruption within a government was a real message to the ruling bodies at the time. There was continued controversy for years.
