While it provided the reader with weather and astronomical charts, amusing rhymes and interesting epigrams and aphorisms, Benjamin Franklin's Poor Richard's Almanac also provided the reader one of their own kind in the personage of Richard Saunders, the pseudonym of Franklin.  Therefore, Poor Richard's Almanac is much like Franklin's autobiography in which he presents to his reader's a man of humble means who seeks moral perfection and the prosperity which results from frugality and wisdom.

Interestingly, Franklin's wife could not bear to be subjected to his minute astronomical observations, so he recorded them in his Almanac.  The wisdom of his aphorisms comes from many great writers such as Dryden, Pope, and Swift.
