The only reference that I know of that uses `iota` as a specific value is that sometimes the imaginary unit is denoted `iota` , whereas it is usually denoted i.

If you are asking about the imaginary unit, then `i=sqrt(-1)` by definition. There is no proof because we have defined it this way.
