What type of structure-Functional, matrix, team, or virtual network-do you believe your personality would best fit?
The hay group published a report that some managers have personalities suited to horizontal relationships such as project management that achieve results with little formal authority. Other managers are more suited to operating roles with much formal authority in a vertical structure.
The organizational structure or design that I would be best at would be matrix.
A matrix design is one in which people are taken from many different parts of a firm to work together on a given project. In such a design, there is a manager who gathers the team that is needed and delineates their individual functions.
I believe that this would fit my personality because it has (unlike a team design) a clear chain of command and division of labor. I believe that I work best in situations like that where responsibilities are clear and there need be little infighting about who will do what or who will be in charge.
