This poem is written in free verse. That means there is no meter to each line and there is no effort to create rhyme.

In this poem, the Mirror or rather the reflective quality of the mirror is personified. We see this occur twice through two different objects, the mirror and the water of the lake. You could call it a personification poem, but I am not sure such a label exists.

In studying this poem with my own class, most of my students identified the tone in this poem as honestly direct. They determined that the speaker was the reflection.
