Hong Kong is a former British colony that is now a Chinese Special Administrative Region (S.A.R). The situation in Hong Kong is very unique because while being technically part of China it controls most of its internal affairs, including immigration and economic policy.
Hong Kong has a very severe shortage of land and space available to cater to their steady growth. This has led to Hong Kong being a trendsetter in both land reclamation and the construction of exceedingly tall residential buildings. They have reclaimed land from the ocean to increase their livable space and they also only construct high-rises for residential accommodations in order to maximize the available space.
Some technological things would be that many of those in Hong Kong do not speak Mandarin Chinese but Cantonese Chinese which is a entire different language from Mandarin although they use the same characters. So it would be somewhat offensive if you tried to talk to them in Mandarin Chinese. However a good amount of the population also speaks English, so much that it is the second official language of Hong Kong.
