Both Tom and Wilson react dramatically to their wives cheating. Each try to manifest their reaction with violence. Both believe the man their wives are cheating with to be Jay Gatsby. Both take entirely too long to figure it out; their wives openly have their affairs under the noses of their men.

Tom openly confronts Gatsby when he learns of the affair, and Daisy. Tom takes the opportunity to express his feelings and believes in the fact that his wife will ultimately choose him, and she does. Tom ultimately gets his wife back.

George Wilson never gets his wife back because the are both dead: he ultimately commits suicide. He never knows that the person his wife was with was in fact someone he trusted. He reacts with such tension that he takes the life of one who never betrayed him.
