What social aspects of society are the most defining of American life in the 1950s and 1960s?
Of course, the 1950s and 1960s were very different decades. The social aspects that define American life were very different in the two. Two of the social aspects that most clearly defined American life during this time (by being different from one decade to the next) were:
- Attitudes towards authority. The '50s were the decade of conformity while the '60s were the decade of the counterculture and rebellion.
- Minority issues. The '50s were a time when minorities and women were still relatively quiet. In the '60s, they started to push hard for the rights they felt they deserved.
