The police have many roles and duties that must be carried out daily. I believe the three main roles of the police that stand out are ethically enforcing the law, protecting the community they are sworn to serve, and carrying out the orders or commands expected by his or her supervisor or commander.

The most important role of the police is to protect the community they are sworn to serve. Police are sworn to and expected to maintain law and order through protecting both the life and property of the people. Protecting the community can include responsibilities such as responding to complaints pertaining to criminal activities, controlling riots, responding to accidents, providing additional security protection at political rallies and even providing life support to anyone in need of medical care.
