What things did Esther and her family wear and carry with them that you think will be most useful in their new life?

Assuming that as we answer this question we know as little as Esther did about where they would be going, I would say that the black oxfords that she wore and the socks she took would be especially useful. Oxfords are a practical shoe, and one can never have too many socks on a journey of undetermined length. Of the things her mother packed I think the bed linen would be useful because it could be used in so many different ways - for sleeping, for privacy, to wrap and carry things, or even to be cut up and made into other items they might need. Also, the money that they saved would most likely be of great value.
