What is a summary of Jimmy Buffett's A Salty Piece of Land?
Songwriter Jimmy Buffett's novel A Salty Piece of Land begins with protagonist Tully Mars hurling a massage table out the window of his boss's office of the poodle ranch he works on in Wyoming and going on the run. His boss, Thelma Barson, hires two bounty hunters, Waldo and Wilton Stilton, to find him, because she wants revenge.
Riding his horse named Mr. Twain, he travels on the run all the way to the Alabama coastal town called Heat Wave, where he and Mr. Twain board the shrimp boat Caribbean Soul captained by Kirk. Aboard Caribbean Soul, they head for Punta Margarita, where Captain Kirk offers Tully a job at the Lost Boys Fishing Lodge as a fishing guide.
After other misadventures, including accidentally submerging his boss's jeep in an enormous puddle, Tully meets a 101 year old woman named Cleopatra Highbourne, who offers him a job restoring her lighthouse in Cayo Loco. He rejects the job in favor of keeping his position at the Lost Boys Fishing Lodge and even meets someone in Belize who can help him replace the jeep. While in Belize, he also meets Dawn, the stepdaughter of his old boss Thelma Barston, and Dawn informs him that Waldo and Wilton Stilton are in town and hot on Tully's heels. The novel ends with Tully going on the run again.
