The Source is generally considered the most ambitious novel ever written by veteran writer James Michener. Michener's novel's roots began while the author was on a trip to Israel, and the book follows the history of the Jews from their earliest days until the founding of the state of Israel in 1948. Michener uses a group of archaeologists who discover ancient relics at various stages of the Jews' history as the basis for each new chapter.

I have provided you with three links to other sources that describe the summary of Michener's The Source.
