Alice is drawing a new vision, one that Bella identifies as her mother’s house. Alice phones Edward, and it is decided that Edward will come get Bella and take her somewhere safe, and Alice and Jasper will go protect Bella’s mother. Bella is terrified and sick with worry, and curls up in a ball in her room for several hours. Then the phone rings, and it is Bella’s mother. Bella gets on the phone and hears her mother’s worried voice, followed by James’ voice. James tells her that he has her mother and will not hurt her if Bella can slip away from Alice and Jasper and come to him. Bella decides to follow his directions in order to save her mother and the Cullens. Bella writes a letter to Edward, but tells Alice it is a letter for her mother. She asks Alice if she would leave it at Bella’s mother’s house, and Alice agrees. The letter professes her love and asks Edward not to go after James after she is gone.
