They return to Bella’s house and Bella begins yelling at Edward, acting angry at him. Charlie is upset, and inquires what is wrong, and Bella tells him she broke up with Edward. She tells Charlie that she can’t be trapped in Forks like her mother, and that she is leaving. Charlie is badly hurt, as those are the words that Bella’s mother Renee used when she left Charlie. Bella drives away, and Edward takes over the driving. He tells Bella that the tracker is following them. Edward explains that the tracker is excited by the idea of this “game,” and that he is driven by the challenge of capturing Bella. The only way to stop him is to kill him. At the Cullen’s house, Laurent is there, and warns them that James will never stop the hunt. They decide to split up in order to confuse him, and Edward asks Rosalie to trade clothes with Bella to throw the scent. Rosalie is reluctant, but Esme agrees. Edward and Bella say a quick goodbye. Alice sees that the tracker will follow the bait, and Bella leaves with Jasper and Alice.
