What an interesting book and terrifying story!
Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness, by Susannah Cahalan, is about a young girl not too far out of college. Susannah works as a journalist doing work that she is not loving but can pay her bills. She begins to have what she describes as panic attacks and black outs as well as seizures. When this first happens she is with her boyfriend who calls 911 and they go to the hospital.
At first the doctors are not sure what is wrong with her. After many tests and speaking with a psychologist, it is suggested to her that her medical issues are due to her lifestyle and amount of alcohol she drinks. Susannah continues to get worse and moves back home with her mother.
After some time she is still not improving and ends up hospitalized. Many various tests are done and no one is quite sure what is wrong with her. It takes one determined doctor to discover the root of her illness. With the support of her family, boyfriend and friends, Susannah goes down a long rehabilitation road and makes a successful recovery.
