What is a stethoscope used for?
Stethoscopes are typically used to listen to sounds inside the body. The most commonly recognized use would be to listen to the heart in order to detect a heart murmur, if it is beating too fast/slow, etc. It can also be used to listen to the lungs for wheezing or crackling. Another use is to listen to the stomach for bowel movements. The stethoscope can be used on the chest, abdomen, or back. There is no risk involved in its use since it is not invasive.
