What states allow people to carry guns?

There are so many different variations in gun laws at the state level that the best way to answer this question is to break "carrying guns" into two categories: "open carry," which means to allow people to carry guns in full view of others; and "concealed carry," which allows people to carry concealed weapons. All states except for Illinois and the District of Columbia allow licensed gun owners to carry concealed weapons. All states except for the District of Columbia, South Carolina, Texas, New York, Illinois, Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma allow for some sort of open carry of a loaded gun.
