Who is the current governor of New Jersey?
The current governor of New Jersey is a man named Chris Christie. Governor Christie is a Republican. He was elected governor in 2009, defeating the incumbent, Democrat Jon Corzine. He took office in January 2010.
Governor Christie is seen by many Republicans as a rising star in their party. He is seen as such largely because of the degree to which he is willing to be combative when dealing with political opponents. He is admired by people who feel that government needs leaders who will not be polite and compromising. They feel he is a straight shooter who will pursue what is right instead of trying to "get along" with the establishment. Because of this, many people wanted him to run for president in 2012, but he ultimately decided not to.
