What are some theories on Edgar A. Poe's death? If you have any websites that would be helpful, i would love some of them too.
Historians still debate the possible causes of the death of one of America's greatest writers, Edgar Allan Poe. Poe was found on a Baltimore street "in great distress" on October 3, 1849, and he died four days later in a Baltimore hospital without sufficiently regaining consciousness to explain his predicament. Interestingly, Poe was wearing someone else's clothes when found. Among the speculated causes of his death:
- brain lesion
- heart disease
- cooping (forced drug or alcohol consumption, which could explain his clothes)
- attempted murder
- delirium tremens (alcohol or drug withdrawal, similar to the DTs)
- brain tumor
- meningeal inflammation
A University of Maryland study believes Poe had all the symptoms of rabies. For a detailed and enthralling look at Poe's death, "The Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe," check out the site below.
