What are some similarities and differences between Hamlet and Horatio?
Hamlet and Horatio are similar in that they are intellectuals; they share an academic background and enjoy discussing ideas. To start out with, they are also both somewhat cautious. However, Hamlet abandons that caution mid-play, with his rash stabbing of Polonius, while Horatio remains careful throughout. For example, he refuses to say whether what he saw at the play makes him think Claudius is guilty, he warns Gertrude that Ophelia's ramblings are making people think that something is wrong at court, and he tells Hamlet not to fight the duel if he has misgivings.
