i have choose some recent American Foreign enocomic policy and then say if it's realism or Idealism
It is not always easy to determine if a policy conforms to realism or idealism because much of the difference lies in the motives behind the policy, not the policy itself.
For example, we are currently imposing economic sanctions on Iran. You can say that is realism if you believe that we are using the sanctions to try to reduce Iran's power and their ability to threaten our security. However, if you say that we are sanctioning them so as to increase the respect for international law (because they are in violation of non-proliferation agreements) then our action might be seen as idealism.
One thing that we are doing that seems clearly to fit with realism is the fact that we have not labelled China as a currency manipulator. It seems clear that China is manipulating its currency in ways that are not fair or in accordance with international law. But we do not want to antagonize China so we do not make too big a deal of it. This is in accord with realism because we are acting based on our interests, not on ideals and law.
