BOO RADLEY.  After Boo stabbed his father in the leg with a pair of scissors,

The sheriff hadn't the heart to put him in jail alongside Negroes, so Boo was locked in the courthouse basement. (Chapter 1)

MISS MAUDIE.  When Scout asks Maudie if "all those things they say about" Boo are true, Maudie tells her

"That is three-fourths colored folks and one-fourth Stephanie Crawford. (Chapter 5)

MISS STEPHANIE.  Following the children's visit to the Radley back porch after which Jem loses his pants, Mr. Radley fires a shotgun blast at the trespassers. Miss Stephanie is quick to explain to Jem what all the noise is about.

"Shot in the air. Scared him pale, though. Says if anyone sees a white nigger around, that's the one. Says he's got the other barrel waitin' for the next sound he hears... be it dog, nigger, or--"  (Chapter 6)
