What are some outside motivational problems that may hinder goal attainment at work?
The main factors that are external to the work environment but which affect goal attainment are typically factors in employees’ personal lives. The most obvious of these are issues with spouses and with children. It is often the case that workers have problems in their relationships with their spouses and/or their children. These problems can work to decrease the employees’ motivation because they are distracted and preoccupied. Their personal problems make it very hard for them to care about work as much as their employers would like. When this happens, it is typically very difficult for the workers to achieve the goals that are set for them at work.
