What are some legitimate reasons for why women should be allowed in combat?
We're doing speeches in English and they must be debatable topics. I chose women in combat because it interests me. However, I'm having difficulty figuring out some areas of support.
I would argue this by saying that women should be allowed to do anything that they are physically capable of doing. I would then argue that combat in modern times is something that many women are capable of doing. I would acknowledge that there might be combat jobs for which few women are physically suited. Things like infantry might require too much physical strength (because of the amount of equipment they have to carry). But even there, many women can meet the requirements (as this link shows) should be allowed.
But outside of the infantry, I would point out, there are many combat positions that do not require that much physical strength. For example, there is no reason that women should not officially be allowed to fly helicopters in combat. I would also point out that wars like those in Iraq and Afghanistan are ones where the lines between combat and non-combat troops are extremely blurry. Women have already been in combat a great deal and have been doing well. This should show that they ought to be allowed to play any role they are physically capable of.
