Some pretty key inventions emerged out of the 1910s:

The Zipper: (1913) The modern day zipper was invented in the 1910s as the 'Separable Fastener' by Gideon Sundback.

Toaster: Invented in 1919 as a way to avoid burnt toast, the pop-up toaster had a timer which allowed the toast to stop toasting and 'pop-up' at exactly the right time.

The paper shopping bag: Consumerism at its best, the shopping bag was invented by a grocer who wanted his shoppers to be able tobuy and carry home more groceries.  The original design had a cord running through it to form the handles, and this design helped reinforce the sturdiness of the bag.

Toys: Tinker toys, Lincoln Logs, and the Erector set were all invented in this decade.

Life-Savers: A candy-maker designed the first Life-Savers candy in 1912 as a peppermint roll.

Assembly line: Ford implements the first mass production assembly line in 1913 in his car plant.

Sonar: Invented shortly after the sinking of the Titanic, sonar used sound and echoes to locate objects in the water, like large icebergs.

the Bra: Originally invented by a high society socialite who wanted a smoother look than her restrictive corset could provide.  Her simple invention changed women's fashion permanently.
