What are some examples of compound machines in daily living?
There are many kinds of compound machines that we encounter every day. These are machines that are made up of one or more of the six simple machines.
For example, a wheelbarrow is a compound machine. A wheelbarrow has (of course) a wheel and axle. That is one kind of simple machine. In addition, it uses a lever for helping the user pick up the heavy load. By combining these two simple machines, the wheelbarrow is a compound machine.
Another simple tool that is a compound machine is a scissors. A scissors uses wedges with very thin edges. These are the parts that cut. In addition, it uses levers to help the user cut more effectively. Again, you have two simple machines combined to make a compound machine.
