What are some contributions to society of France and Great Britain?
France and Great Britain have made many contributions to society and culture (which is part of society).
Perhaps the greatest contribution of Great Britain was its contribution to the idea of limited government. Starting with the Magna Carta and going up through the English Bill of Rights, the British were the leaders in creating a system in which there were written limits on what the government could do. Of course, Britain also contributed Shakespeare to the world, which is an equally great cultural contribution.
The French can be said to have contributed nationalism. The idea of nationalism is said to have started with the French Revolution. It then ended up remaking the map of Europe in the ensuing century. It contributed, for example, to the unification of Italy and of Germany.
