With the modern age and technology came an evolution of not just industries, but also agriculture. Simple farming using the mechanical power of livestock transitioned into an industry fueled by modern equipment, tools, structures and techniques that allowed for large-scale production. This, in turn, has several advantages, which are listed below:
1. More food available throughout the world with greater variety and availability.
2. Cheaper food (larger quantities lead to competition amongst providers, which drives prices down).
3. Less labor. Farmers do not have to work as intensely using their own muscle power. They also do not have to hire as large of a staff to work the fields (this may be seen as an economic disadvantage).
4. Longer shelf life due to new techniques of food preservation (again, some see this as a disadvantage as they are weary of putting pesticides into their bodies for health-related reasons).
