We have |2x + 4| < 12.

|2x + 4| < 12

=> -12 < 2x + 4 < 12

-12 < 2x + 4

=> -16 < 2x

=> -8 < x

and

2x + 4 < 12

=> 2x < 8

=> x < 4

The required value is -8 < x < 4
